We are a free restaurant offering lunch Monday-Saturday and showers on weekdays. We seek to serve in the spirit of compassion and love.

Our Mission

Martin's, as it is affectionately known, is a free restaurant committed to serving in the spirit of compassion, understanding and love. We serve lunch to all who enter our doors and offer showers on weekdays starting at 10am.

We are a community of people with diverse spiritual practices, though we are rooted in and continually inspired by the Catholic Worker Movement. Everyone who comes to Martin's is welcomed as a guest and treated with respect and hospitality.

All donations benefit those for whom the money is intended and we receive no church or government funds. Martin's is entirely run by volunteers, and has been since it first opened in 1971.

Schedule of Services

We serve lunch six days a week. Most of our meals are vegetarian and often vegan.

Lunch (12 PM - 2 PM)

We serve a full lunch meal in our dining room Monday through Saturday. Take away is available to guests that provide their own container.

Showers (10 AM - 2 PM)

We offer showers on weekdays on a first-come first-served basis.

Get Involved

Thank you for considering us as a place to serve others — Martin's is staffed entirely by volunteers and relies on the community to help serve our guests. We welcome lunch volunteers Monday to Saturday, from 9 AM to 3 PM. If you can't do the whole shift, that's not a problem; we appreciate any support you can offer. There is no sign-up or advanced notice required for individuals: feel free to just show up during the hours posted below. If the gate is not open, ring the doorbell at the door to the left of the gate and somebody will let you in. If you are interested in volunteering and want to learn more, please reach out to us at volunteer@martindeporres.org or call 415-552-0240 during our operating hours. For groups larger than 4 people, please contact us to arrange a time to come in.

Volunteer Groups

We welcome small groups of one time volunteers though we can only accommodate up to 4 people at one time. Larger groups can possibly be broken up into different shifts. Call to see what days are available based on the size of existing crews.
